SASF's Annual Crab Feed: Thank You!

On Saturday, February 24th, SASF hosted its 30th Annual Crab Feed fundraiser. Through the hard and tireless work of our event organizers and volunteers, this was our most successful Crab Feed to date.

800 hungry supporters feasted on our signature Asian Crab meal made from 4,000 lbs. of Dungeness crab, 200 lbs. of salad, 560 lbs. of chicken wings, 60 dozen eggs, and 150 lbs. of rice. While enjoying the food, entertainment was provided by the Sacramento Kings Dancers and Slamson. The evening was further filled with Last Man Standing raffles, dessert auction, and baked goods sale stations. District 5 County Supervisor Pat Hume’s stellar auctioneering became the impetus for a wildly successful live and silent auction.

We are so grateful for the strong support. The crab feed is a major funder to sustain our youth programs. The funds along with other fundraisers and donations enable us to envision and pursue new programs.

Special thanks to Samantha Tov, Anh Phoong, and Judy Cuong, who worked closely with our planning committee to enhance and grow our event. We are also very grateful to all those who contributed items for our live and silent auctions, and to the dessert auction and the baked goods sale which were new to the Crab feed this year.

And as always, we very much appreciate all of the event volunteers—from the cooks, food preppers and stagers, servers, bartenders, raffle crew, and the clean-up staff who gave their time and hands to help with all of the "heavy lifting" needed to put on our annual event.

Save the date: Saturday, February 22, 2025, for our 31st Annual SASF Crab Feed. Look forward to seeing everyone there!

2024 SASF Summer League Registration Update

Thank you for those who filled out the interest form to help us understand the demand for our summer league. Given the preliminary numbers, we are going to have a K-3 co-ed division only.

The K-3 Division will be held on Friday nights starting on June 28th and ending on August 2nd from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM. Registration information can be found on the Summer League web page. Registration will be first come first served and will open a waitlist if the division fills up. If you are on the waitlist, payment will not be required until you are officially registered after the first day of observation. You are still welcome to come out on day 1 and we will let you know after that night if we are going to pull from our waitlist to fill our division.

We are aware there is an age gap from K - 3rd graders, but we want to extend the invite to these age groups. After observation day, you have the right to not participate if you feel your kid is not ready to play for any reason, and we will give you a refund. Keep in mind, there are other camps in the summer where programs like CCC Lil' Hoopsters and Basic Hoops that give kindergarten kids an opportunity to learn the game with their peers.

We look forward to seeing you all in a few months!

Strive for Strength Event: June 1, 2024

Hello! My name is Nola Nishio and I am one of the co-presidents of Strive for Strength (S4S) alongside Marissa Gong and Lauren Anderson. Lauren and I are seniors at CK McClatchy High School, and Marissa is a senior at John F Kennedy High School. (Pictured: Nola is left, Lauren center and Marissa is right).

Strive for Strength is a nonprofit organization affiliated with SASF. Since our establishment in 2008, our mission has been to empower and educate fellow youth in the Sacramento-area. Our board is composed of 20 high schoolers from various schools in the Sacramento and Elk Grove areas, including CK McClatchy, John F Kennedy, Franklin, and West Campus, and we are aided by adult advisors.

In the past, we have organized retreats where youth ranging from middle to high school can enjoy a packed itinerary with motivational speakers and activities. This year, our board aims to fulfill our mission through a community-based event centered around mental health awareness. With this event, we want to destigmatize and dismantle the negative stigma surrounding mental health. We feel that a community-wide event is the best way to address the overall decline in mental health since the pandemic, as uplifting others is ultimately our goal.

While this event is still in the works, we hope you will join us on June 1, 2024, for an afternoon of education and entertainment! We will provide more details in the coming months.
