Meet the SASF Team

Evan Kanenaga
Executive Director

Evan Kanenaga is currently the Executive Director and has served the SASF community since December 2011. He is responsible for developing a foundation for consistent growth and operational viability. His organizational philosophy and direction is in part a result from his experience and accomplishments as a Sacramento Police Officer.

Evan stated his biggest challenges at SASF comes from balancing past traditions with future goals and ongoing social changes. But he realizes the importance of the task as it will contribute and strengthen SASF’s long-standing history and community involvement. Evan stated he has always appreciated the dedication and hard work of all the volunteers and Board Members that help to make SASF successful in its endeavors.

Evan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and retired from law enforcement on June 1, 2013 after 30-years of service. Evan was professionally recognized for his impressive accomplishments with the Sacramento Police Department. In his spare time, Evan enjoys golfing, softball, working in his yard and family trips to Disneyland.

Justin Kanenaga
Facility Manager

Justin Kanenaga is the Facility Manager and is responsible for special events and sports programs. Justin collects and maintains information of customers and clientele and uses it as a reference for future events and programs. He is also responsible for training new staff members and leading meetings for special projects. Justin has been affiliated with SASF’s basketball programs for many years, and has been a part of SASF’s staff monitoring the facility and helping in the kitchen since 2014. Justin graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.

Santiago Soto
Assistant Facility Manager

Santiago Soto is the Assistant Facility Manager. Santiago works behind-the-scenes, ensuring everything goes smoothly and that the SASF facility is managed and cared for.

Phoebe Bayudan-Soto
Administrative Assistant

Phoebe Bayudan-Soto is our volunteer Administrative Assistant ready to help you with all questions regarding our facility or any of our programs. Phoebe is currently in her third year at California State University, Chico studying Health Services Administration. She started at SASF in middle school as a volunteer helping set-up and clean-up events. In high school, she was hired to be part of the kitchen and event staff. Phoebe returned to SASF to gain further on-the-job experience. She can be reached at sasfmgr@gmail.com.

Lena Pereira
Administrative Assistant

Lena Pereira joins SASF with over 15 years professional experience in business management, marketing and event planning. With a Master of Arts Degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco, Lena has since worked at Nike, The Los Angeles Clippers, Whole Foods Market and Koreatown Youth and Community Center. She is also currently a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager for Bicycle Transit Systems, a bike share operator in the United States. She is passionate about environmental sustainability, racial and gender equity, and loves sports. Born and raised in Sacramento, she is a recent returnee and happy to be re-engaged in our community.

Jen and Remy Tokunaga
Event Coordinators

Jen and Remy Tokunaga are the co-owners of The Creative Space in Midtown. They grew up in the SASF community mainly coaching/playing summer league basketball, and Remy was the President of Strive for Strength in 2012. After obtaining Business Administration degrees and working in SoCal, Jen and Remy have returned to Sacramento and they've created a place for small businesses to share their creativity with others. Since starting their business in March of 2020, they've held a number of Food & Craft Fairs at their location in Midtown and they're gearing up for their next event at SASF on Saturday, November 13, 2021. They're excited to be welcomed back into the SASF community and serve as SASF's Event Coordinators.
