Big Day of Giving Testimonial - Tony Lewis

Return to Big Day of Giving

Tony has long had a passion for serving the community. While serving as chair of the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church (SJUMC) Basketball Committee and the Northern California Church League (NCCL), Tony became familiar with the SASF's "Quest" to build a community/recreational facility. "The goal to help the community and provide a positive environment for the youth and adults alike" drew Tony into the project. Recognizing Tony's legal background would serve the SASF well, Tony was actively recruited and served on the Board of Directors as Vice-President from 2001-2011.

Tony was instrumental in pursuing tax exempt opportunities, lowering property taxes, and planned and executed the facility usage by developing guidelines for rental priorities and policies. Tony also played a critical role with our annual basketball tournament, serving as a division coordinator, developing our medical waiver to ensure minimal liability, and coordinated the sale of hundreds of tournament t-shirt and sweatshirt orders each year. Most important, Tony served as the tournament's Executive Advisor. Always fair and open-minded, the tournament committee relied on him heavily to resolve the most sensitive issues resulting from tournament play.

One of Tony's favorite memories was "the first year of operation and watching our families gather, play and cheer every night during the summer league. It was great to see the community in the new facility enjoying the games and visiting with friends."

Tony still continues to support the SASF and said, "he is looking forward to seeing his grandchildren play at the facility and participate in the many youth programs SASF has to offer. I am confident that SASF will continue to provide programs and services that positively impact our community."
