Sports for Life update

After a fun October filled with Pickleball, Sports for Life is bringing back basketball! The program continues to welcome new members and strives to provide the Sports for Life community with a safe and fun environment to fully participate in team sports. Anthony is a member of SASF Sports for Life. Here is a message from Anthony's mother, Christina:

"As Anthony's mother I have always wanted him to experience as much has he could in life. So when I heard of SASF I immediately looked into what they would be offering and I am so glad I did. He loves it so much. He is always looking forward to going and having fun and learning new things. He has improved so much in pickleball! When he started his balls were going all over the place. Now, he has learned how to hit the ball with more control. Now, he is looking forward to playing basketball for the month of November. Thank you so much for putting together this program for them."

Meet Mason, SASF's newest team member

We are excited to introduce Mason Wong, SASF's newest team member. We are working with the State Department of Rehabilitation, in conjunction with the Foundation of California Community Colleges (FCCC) to provide work experience for youth and young adult individuals, including Mason. Please welcome Mason when you see him at SASF! Mason will be assisting with event support, alongside SASF event staff. We are grateful for Mason's contributions thus far and look forward to collaborating with him. A message from Mason:

"Hello, My name is Mason Wong. I am in 12th grade at Laguna Creek High School. I am going to be working at SASF and I'll do my best to accomplish their goals. Usually I like to make videos and animations about things that represent holidays, important events, and birthdays. I want to work at SASF because this sounds like the greatest job I ever had. I hope I do a good job here."

SPARK Youth Conference was a success!

SASF took a major step to serving its youth and the community with the free virtual event on Saturday, 10-12:30pm. In collaboration with Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre, SASF hosted the film, "Ghosted" which circles the lives of four young adults who meet and try to support one another as each goes through their own personal stresses. Spanish was embedded into the film and two of the facilitators translated during the workshops. Spanish terms and sentences were dropped in the chat box.

Teen mental health statistics, nationally and in the Sacramento region presented by Jacqueline Rodriguez, Sac City Unified School District, provided context. SASF's own SPARK Teen Team added further illumination, sharing their coping strategies of dealing with stress.

Hats-off to Elk Grove Unified School whose promotion accounted for nearly all the 350 registrations. Feedback was very positive from teens, teachers, parents, facilitators and speakers. Kaiser's Educational Theatre staff is eager to work with us in the future.

Teen and adult raffle prize winners are: Lana Porter, Natasha Price, Jayden Brown, Carole Craddock, Tejas Kumar, Lucy Chen, Shiva Mughal, Natalie Gonzales, Inshrah Akhtar, Gabriela Somera, Christine Reyes, Maggie Baptiste, Dana Chu, Andres Grajeda, Diego Ramirez Sanchez, Ramenpreet Fnu, Danetta Dantoc, Karen Ottinger, Alpha Baylon, Noah Tran, and Melissa Cru.

November 2021 COVID-19 Safety Update

As of November 1, 2021, there have been no additional COVID-19 mandates that are required for an organization and facility like SASF. However, SASF will continue to require masks (regardless of vaccine status) for all who enter the facility. Social distancing is also recommended. SASF will continue to monitor federal, state and local health department guidelines and update our community as necessary.
